Osage's Cordia leads area wrestlers at Junior Nationals

FARGO, N.D. - School of the Osage's Chase Cordia posted a 5-2 record to lead a group of four Central Missouri area wrestlers this week in the U.S. Marine Corps 16U and Junior Nationals at the FargoDome.

Cordia competed in the 182-pound Junior Freestyle division, which featured 112 wrestlers from across the nation in that bracket. He was one of the last 24 wrestlers remaining in his division when he lost his second match in the double-elimination format.

All four wrestlers competed in the Juniors Freestyle division, which was Sunday through Tuesday.

Cordia opened his tournament with a 10-0 win by technical fall in 1:29 against Connecticut's Ethan Edmondson in the Round of 128, then lost by technical fall, 12-2 in 4:32, to Oregon's Asher Ruchti in the Round of 64.

Cordia answered with four consecutive victories in the consolation bracket, winning all matches by technical fall.

He started with a 13-0 win in 1:17 against Oregon's Reece White, then defeated Louisiana's Trace Morrow 16-5 in 2:45. Cordia followed that with a 10-0 win in 1:31 against Georgia's Nolan Pozzobon and a 10-0 win in 2:33 against Idaho's Dante Roggio.

In the Consolation Round of 16, Cordia dropped an 11-10 decision to Illinois' Deanthony Parker, who scored the winning points with 23 seconds remaining in the match.

Parker went on to finish in seventh place at 182.

Camden Meeks of Blair Oaks wrestled in the 182 bracket as well, finishing with an 0-2 record. He lost by technical fall (13-2 in 3:20) to Oklahoma's John Roberts in the Round of 128, then lost 10-0 to Ohio's Cole Hivnor in the consolation bracket.

Osage's Ryan Schepers posted a 2-2 record in the 152 bracket.

Schepers began his tournament with a 5-3 win against New Jersey's Tanner Peake, then lost in the Round of 64 to Wisconsin's Cale Anderson by technical fall, 12-1 in 5:52.

In the consolation bracket, Schepers won by technical fall, 12-2 in 2:50, against Florida's Jaurice Seymour. Schepers led 10-2 after one period in his next match, but Montana's Drake Rhodes rallied to win by technical fall, 21-10 in 5:43.

Jefferson City's Michael Friederich had a 1-2 record in the 170 bracket.

Friederich won by technical fall, 10-0 in 1:32, against South Dakota's Keaton Bissonnette in the Round of 128, then lost 10-0 in 1:13 to Florida's Dominic Joyce in the Round of 64.

In the consolation bracket, Friederich lost 15-6 to Minnesota's Ken Stahl II.

Meeks stayed in Fargo to compete in the Junior Greco Roman division, with matches taking place Thursday and Friday.

Meeks posted a 2-2 record, this time in the 170 bracket. He lost his first match by technical fall, 13-0 in 2:01, to Alabama's Will Miller in the Round of 64.

Meeks responded with back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket, claiming both matches by fall. He pinned Connecticut's Gus Bachner in 40 seconds, then pinned Idaho's Isaiah Twait in 30 seconds.

In the Consolation Round of 16, Meeks lost by fall in 1:31 to Washington's Darion Johnson
