ELLISVILLE — The Jefferson City Post 5 Juniors were 2-0 in the GMB Nationals 16U Tournament before rain canceled the remainder of the games Sunday.

Rain canceled all games Saturday, leaving Post 5 one more pool-play game Sunday. Jefferson City defeated the Jefferson County Blazers 8-1 to finish pool play 2-0.

Post 5 used a five-run fifth inning to pull away to victory. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Brand.

Cavender led the hitting attack, going 3-for-4 with one single, two doubles and an RBI. Berendzen had two doubles and one RBI, Nate Roark had two singles and one RBI and Aiden Boeckmann added two singles.

Schnieders pitched the next two innings, striking out three, while Berendzen went 1-2-3 in the seventh with a strikeout.

Post 5 earned the No. 1 seed in bracket play and was scheduled to play a rematch against the Blazers in the semifinals, but rain arrived during the first inning, stopping the game and canceling the rest of the tournament.

The Missouri Gators had defeated Hounds Baseball 4-3 in the first semifinal game.

The Post 5 Juniors (11-4-1) will host the Missouri AA Zone I Tournament this week at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex. Jefferson City will face Chillicothe Post 25 in the first round at 4 p.m. Thursday, with the winner advancing to face Washington Post 218 in the next round of the three-team tournament at 7 p.m.
