CHESTERFIELD — The Jefferson City Post 5 Freshmen won a pair of games at the GMB Nationals 15U Tournament, before bracket play was canceled due to rain.

Post 5 opened pool play Friday with a 6-3 win against the Top Tier Batbusters, as Jefferson City scored all of its runs after the fourth inning.

Down 1-0 entering the fifth, Jefferson City responded with two runs in the inning on an RBI double by Easton DeMilia and an RBI groundout by Ty Kiesling.

In the sixth, Garrett Ickes had an RBI double and Cody Pickett hits an RBI single, making the score 5-2. Conner Bax scored on a fielder's choice in the seventh to extend Post 5's lead to 6-3.

DeMilia and Pickett each finished the game with a single and a double, while Bax had a pair of singles.

Pickett earned the win with a complete-game effort. In seven innings, he allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Rain canceled all games Saturday, leaving Jefferson City with one more pool-play game Sunday. In that contest, Post 5 defeated a second Top Tier Batbusters team 3-1 to go 2-0 in pool play.

Top Tier scored its run on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first inning. After that inning, Post 5 pitcher Thorn Phillips only allowed one baserunner past second base the rest of the game.

In six innings, Phillips gave up one run on two hits, adding five walks and six strikeouts.

Ickes gave Jefferson City the lead with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth. Bax scored an insurance run in the fifth.

Jefferson City ended the game with nine hits. Bax and Justin Atnip each had a pair of singles.

Post 5 received the No. 1 seed heading into bracket play and received a bye into the semifinals of the 14-team tournament, but more rain Sunday canceled the rest of the tournament.

The Post 5 Freshmen (11-5-2) will play in the Missouri A State Tournament this week at Ballwin. Jefferson City will play the host team, Eureka Post 177, in the first round at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
