Lady Jays down Southern Boone for Union Tournament title

UNION - The Jefferson City Lady Jays put in a dominant performance Saturday, defeating Southern Boone 59-24 in the Union Tournament championship game.

By the end of the first quarter, Jefferson City was ahead 15-5. The second quarter went even better for the Lady Jays, who took a 38-7 advantage into halftime. The scored reached 53-14 after three quarters.

Sarah Linthacum was named the tournament MVP, while Hannah Nilges and Kara Daly both joined her on the all-tournament team.

Daly scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Linthacum recorded a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, Addison Morgan chipped in 11 points and Hannah Nilges finished with seven points and seven assists.

Southern Boone's Jersee Wren and Paige Gamble were named to the all-tournament team.

Jefferson City (13-1) will take an eight-game winning streak into Monday's game against Rolla, the fifth-ranked team in Class 5 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. The Lady Jays are ranked third in Class 6.

The freshman game will start at 4:30 p.m., the JV game will tip off at about 6 p.m. and the varsity contest will follow at about 7:30 p.m. at Fleming Fieldhouse.
