Helias has three champs in taking honors at Willard

WILLARD - The Helias Crusaders had three individual champions in capturing team honors Saturday at the Tiger Pride Battle, hosted by Willard High School.

Gage Lock at 106 pounds, Jack Lage at 120 and Jacob Schrimpf at 132 claimed honors in their respective weight classes. Helias topped the 16-team field with 189.5 points. Bolivar was second at 172, with Farmington taking third at 166.

Lock was 5-0 to win his title, winning his first four matches by fall. He defeated Forrest McMannes of Bolivar 19-9 in the title match in the bracketed tournament. The junior picked up his 100th career victory in the tournament.

Lage was 4-0 at 120. He won once by fall and twice by technical fall before downing Jesse Shannon of Centralia 18-5 in the title match.

Schrimpf was 5-0 to take top honors at 132. He won twice by fall, once by technical fall and once by major decision before posting a 3-2 victory against Blake Cook of Farmington to win the title.

Three Crusaders - Wyatt Forck at 145, Nikolai Careaga at 152 and Tanner Nappier at 195 - finished second.

Forck won four times by fall before losing by fall to Brayden Shelton of Centralia in the title match. Careaga won twice by fall and once by major decision before losing by fall to Tyson Moore of Bolivar for the title. Nappier had two wins by fall and one by major decision and lost by major decision in his four matches.

Careaga, a senior, joined Lage in getting his 100th career victory during the tournament.

Carter Prenger (4-1) took third at 113 for the Crusaders. Taking fourth were Jace Duemmel (2-2) at 126, Carson Hayes (2-2) at 138 and Nathan Schneiders (2-3) at 170. Alex Tesreau (2-2) was fifth at 160. Blake Luebbering (0-5) was sixth at 182, while Michael Sanner (1-4) was seventh at 285.

Helias had two JV wrestlers compete Saturday. Brennen Prenger (2-3) was fourth at 132, while Lincoln Meterns (2-3) was sixth at 160.

Helias is back in action Wednesday when it travels to Fleming Fieldhouse to face Jefferson City. The JV dual will start at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity.

At 3-0, the Crusaders and Jays are the lone remaining undefeated teams in Central Missouri Activities Conference duals this season.
