Capital City boys open California Tournament with win vs. Moberly

CALIFORNIA - The Capital City Cavaliers improved to 4-0 in tournament play this season, opening the California Tournament on Tuesday with a 68-54 first-round victory against the Moberly Spartans.

The two teams previously met Dec. 8 at Capital City High School, with the Cavaliers also winning that contest 61-56.

Capital City, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, led Tuesday's game 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Cavaliers continued to lead 24-17 at halftime and extended their advantage to double digits at 43-32 by the end of the third quarter.

Blake Meredith scored 13 of his team-high 23 points in the first half to lead Capital City in scoring. Mitch Renfrow finished with 17 points and Corde Brown scored all 11 of his points in the second half.

Capital City (8-4) advances to play top-seeded Warrensburg in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Tigers received a first-round bye.
