Down 16-10 with under a minute remaining in the first half, Calvary Lutheran needed a spark.
The Lady Lions got it from seniors Izzy Chilambo and Rachel Thompson.
Chilambo anticipated Kansas City Lutheran passes for steals and Thompson got into a rhythm with her jump shot Saturday in a 46-40 victory on Senior Day.
It was the Lady Lions' first game in three and a half weeks because of COVID-19 and weather.
"I think just trying to get our composure back was a big thing," Calvary coach Hannah Matthews said. "You can only do so much in practice, so it's really nice to see how we do against another team and not just against our own players."
Chilambo capped off the first half with a jumper to pull within 16-12 and Thompson dropped in a pair of baseline jumpers early in the third quarter to help Calvary take its first lead at 19-18 with 5:41 on the clock.
"That's kind of her spot, so she goes towards that spot a little more," Matthews said. "It really helps when we can get it into the post and then kick it out to her."
Thompson scored 16 points to tie Kansas City Lutheran's Bekah Brumley for a game high.
Brumley scored 10 points in the first half.
"Elizabeth Lieb is an outstanding defender, so when (Brumley) got started, I was like, 'You've got her. Don't let her catch the ball after she gets rid of it,'" Matthews said. "And she did an outstanding job."
The Lady Knights tied it at 24 on a pair of free throws before Calvary scored the final six points of the quarter for a 30-24 lead.
Thompson made a jump shot, Sydney Morris took a defensive rebound all the way to the rim for two points and Lieb added a short jumper during the run.
The Lady Lions kept rolling to start the fourth. Thompson made a long jumper and Morris scored off an offensive rebound for a 34-24 lead at the 6:20 mark.
Morris finished with 10 points and five rebounds, and Chilambo had 13 points and six steals.
"She has a very good court awareness to get those passes," Matthews said of Chilambo.
A Lieb steal and a pair of Thompson free throws gave Calvary its largest lead at 41-26 with 4:16 remaining.
The Lady Knights were able to close the gap to four late with steals off a full-court press and a couple of 3s.
"That's something we haven't had time to work on in practice as much because we're limited on numbers," Matthews said. "Definitely something that we need to work on."
Calvary seniors Chloe Baker, Baileigh Morris, Thompson and Chilambo were honored prior to the game.
Calvary (2-4) will play Tuesday at Linn, Thursday at Chamois and Friday at Vienna.
"We'll have a tough week," Matthews said.
