Tipton edges Jefferson City at Capital City Scramble

The Tipton Lady Cardinals won the team title Friday in the Capital City Girls Scramble, edging the Jefferson City Lady Jays by one point in the final team standings.

Tipton posted 91 points in the 13-team event. Hillsboro placed third with 76 points and Sedalia Smith-Cotton took fourth with 55 points.

The Lady Jays had three individual champions in the Scramble, with Zoey Mzeru, Savena Hees and Ezinne Opara each posting 2-0 records.

Mzeru won both matches by fall at 117 pounds against Tipton's Emily Eldringhoff, as did Hees at 143 against Mexico's Choice Foster. Opara won her two matches by fall against Jefferson City's Makalia Scott and Mexico's Brett Iman at 151.

Makayla Wallenmeyer placed second for Jefferson City at 112, going 2-1 with two pins. Whitney Nale also placed second at 159 with a 2-1 record and two wins by fall.

Third-place finishers for the Lady Jays include Lydia Hudson at 127, Stalena Whitehead at 132 and Scott at 151. Whitehead finished with a 3-2 record with three wins by fall.

Jadyn Scott took fifth place at 107 and Kenzie Moore finished sixth at 174.

Tipton also came away with three first-place finishers at the Scramble.

Kyla Cornine went 5-0 at 235 for the Lady Cardinals, winning four matches by fall and another by injury default.

Lily Burns went 5-0 as well at 174 for her title, recording all five wins by first-period pin.

Jadelyn Woolery claimed her individual title at 127 with a 2-0 record, winning both matches by fall.

Tipton's other three wrestlers also claimed top-three finishes in the Scramble.

Christina Loganbill went 2-1 at 107, while Eldringhoff also was runner-up at 143, losing both her matches to Mzeru.

Holly Parker took third at 122 with an 0-2 record.

South Callaway finished in ninth place with 20 points. The Lady Bulldogs' lone wrestler, Dalayna Hargis, took first at 107 with a 2-1 record, winning both matches by fall.

Fatima tied for 10th place with 12 points. Skyla Schroeder was the only wrestler for the Lady Comets, finishing in second place at 137 with a 3-1 record and winning all three matches by pin.

Capital City totaled four points in the team standings. Emily White took fourth place for the Lady Cavaliers at 159.

The remaining individual champions at the Scramble include Lone Jack's Katelynn Conover at 112, Mexico's Abbigale Drew at 122, Rock Bridge's Anna Stephens at 132, Hillsboro's Katie Hendrix at 137 and Smith-Cotton's Hania Lozada at 159.
