VERSAILLES - The Versailles Tigers claimed the district team title Saturday, ending the day with five individual champions in the Class 1 District 3 Tournament.
Twelves of the Tigers' 13 wrestlers finished in the top four to qualify for the sectional tournament, which will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at Versailles.
The Tigers accumulated 206 points in the eight-team district standings. Knob Noster finished a distant second with 139 points.
Winning a district title for Versailles were Kannen Wilson at 113 pounds, Alex Radefeld at 145, Kyle Flieger at 160, Mason Hibdon at 220 and Tristan Gavette at 285.
Hibdon ended the tournament with a 3-0 record and three wins by fall, defeating Fatima's Jason Woodruff in the finals.
Radefeld also posted a 3-0 record, finishing with one pin. He won an 11-2 decision against Knob Noster's Eric Bennett-Wade in the first-place match.
Flieger went 2-0 with two pins, beating Knob Noster's Michael Martin in the championship match.
Gavette and Wilson both received byes into their title matches. Wilson won by second-period fall against Knob Noster's Payton Arnold and Gavette won by second-period pin against California's David Schneider.
Runner-up finishers for the Tigers were Matthew Radefeld at 120, Jacob Schrock at 170 and Connor Lehman at 182.
Schrock ended the day with a 2-1 record and two pins, while Radefeld was 1-1 with one pin. Lehman also had a 1-1 record in the district tournament.
Taking third place were Benjamin Dornan at 126, Tres Powers at 132, Zachary Radefeld at 152 and Gavin Brantley at 195. All four finished with 2-1 records.
Brantley and Dornan won both of their matches by fall, while Powers recorded one pin.
Dillin Wheeler went 1-2 at 138, losing in the bubble match to end his season. The Tigers were open at 106.
The top-three finishers in each weight class at sectionals will qualify for the Class 1 state championships, which are scheduled for Wednesday, March 10, at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence.
