Helias boys, girls capture crowns at Invitational

STE. GENEVIEVE - The Helias boys track and field team won its third team title of the season Friday, while the girls added their second win for a title sweep at the Old Settlement Invitational.

The Helias girls won seven events on their way to 125.5 points, with Valle Catholic taking second with a 98. The Helias boys won five events and scored 109.5 points, 11.5 better than Valle Catholic.

Mikah Edwards won all four of her events. She opened with a title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.34 seconds, then won the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:51.86. Schyler Phillips, Isabelle Struemph and Sammi Ehnke also ran on that winning relay.

Edwards then won the 400-meter dash in 1:01.09 and finished the meet with a first-place time in the 200-meter dash of 26.44 seconds, going 4-for-4.

The event was called after the girls 200 due to inclement weather.

Phillips was a triple-winner for the Lady Crusaders, also taking first in the 4x100-meter relay with the help of Struemph, Tori Schmidt and Ehmke. They clocked a winning time of 54.04 seconds.

Phillips also won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 11.75 inches.

Tauny Gore added a first-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 31-11.75 for the Lady Crusaders.

Dominic Crisostomo broke the Helias school record in the boys pole vault, clearing a winning height of 14-1.25. That broke the previous mark of 14-0, set by Steve Shimkus in 2005.

Noah Voss was the lone double-winner for the Crusaders. He placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.53.

Voss joined Payton Kirchhoff, Ethan Wilson and Brady Voss on the winning 4x800-meter relay, which posted a first-place time of 8:34.39.

Helias' remaining two first-place finishes on the boys side came in field events. Dylan Kopp took first in the discus with a throw of 111-5, while Connor Reinkemeyer placed first in the javelin with a throw of 121-0.
