SEDALIA - The Jefferson City Jays got off to a hot start to Tuesday night's season-opener, defeating Sedalia Smith-Cotton 71-55.
The Jays' last four makes in the first quarter came from beyond the arc to build a 19-4 lead. Jefferson City led 36-23 at halftime and 56-35 at the end of the third quarter.
Sterling DeSha scored 22 points and Keith Driver added 15 points for Jefferson City (1-0), which hosts Monroe City on Tuesday.
Jefferson City won the JV game against Smith-Cotton, 63-38.
