A little bit of chaos is what the Capital City girls basketball team is wanting in the second season of the program.

"I think our strongest point of our game is going to have to be our defense," first-year Lady Cavaliers coach Ashley Agee said. "We have to get those turnovers, we have to get those steals, we have to do all that so we get extra opportunities on the other end of the floor."

The Lady Cavaliers will put their new, faster style of play on display tonight at Owensville to open the season.

Capital City established a defensive-first mindset last season under coach Ryan Madison, who's now coaching at Neosho.

But Agee is wanting to adjust the Lady Cavaliers' approach with a more aggressive way of defending in hopes it turns into more opportunities to score quick, easy buckets in transition.

"I think they are seeing things that they can do that they weren't able to do last year," Agee said. "We're playing a totally different style of basketball, up and down, fast. I think we've seen a lot of good things out of several people, but it's now just kind of the confidence piece and making them believe in themselves."

Running the point for the Lady Cavs this season will be sophomore Brooklynn Greene.

Capital City also has a pair of sophomore guards in Natalie Allison and Sara Kirby.

"She's that little chihuahua," Agee said of Kirby. "Feisty person on defense. I love her. She creates so much stuff for us. She'll be a big part of our defense."

Kambry Pistel, a freshman, is expected to start at another guard spot.

Returning to the post is sophomore Kyla James.

"She's physically stronger, mentally stronger," Agee said. "She's just playing and working a lot harder. She can step outside and knock down an outside shot, so she can play the 4 a little bit in our offense."

Adding depth in the paint for Capital City is freshman Jada Anderson.

"She's tough inside and she'll do well for us," Agee said.

Sophomores Kirstin Chapman and Rylea Sanning are also expected to be in the rotation.

"If we can, if I have numbers, I want to be able to press," Agee said. "We've done our press and that's looking good. Anytime you can put pressure on somebody else, I think you always have a chance of getting the ball."

Capital City will have nearly a week between its first and second games. The Lady Cavaliers will play in the Tipton Tournament beginning Nov. 30.

The first home game for Capital City is scheduled for Dec. 7 against Lebanon.

Capital City's first Central Missouri Activities Conference contest is scheduled for Jan. 5 at Hickman.

The Lady Cavs are looking to build off a 7-18 record in the team's first season.

"The basketball stuff will come into play, but just believing in each other and believing in the system and the program," Agee said. "I tell them that they get to do something that not a lot of people do and that's built a foundation."
