Marcus Anthony (Helias boys), Eric Northweather (Blair Oaks boys), Ross Struemph (St. Elizabeth boys), and Abby Backes and Myra Claas (Tipton girls) all helped lead their respective teams to the state semifinals.

All were among the 12 area basketball players selected as all-state honorees by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.

Anthony, Northweather and Struemph, along with Coby Williams of Versailles and Tre Kempker of Eugene, earned all-state recognition for the second straight season.

On the girls side, Jefferson City's Kara Daly made the Class 5 all-state team for the second straight season, while teammate Sarah Linthacum is a first-time all-state honoree.

South Callaway junior Paige Clubb was named to the Class 3 all-state team for the second straight season.

Joining Clubb on the Class 3 team was California junior Tristan Porter, who helped the Lady Pintos to a 21-6 record and a No. 10 ranking in the final MBCA state poll.

In Class 2, Iberia's Zach Voss earned his first all-state nod as a senior.

Voss averaged 19.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game for the Rangers.

Backes was named the Class 2 girls player of the year after the Tipton senior averaged 25.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in leading the Lady Cardinals to a runner-up finish. Backes ends her high school career as a three-time all-stater.

Helias coach Joe Rothweiler was named co-coach of the year along with Raytown South's Aaron Ihm, Vashon's Tony Irons and Cape Girardeau: Notre Dame's Paul Unterreiner.

The Crusaders finished the season with a 23-6 record and a tie for first in the final Class 4 state rankings.

Blair Oaks senior Northweather was a key piece in the Falcons' run to the Class 3 semifinals, the team's first Final Four appearance since winning the Class 2A title in 2001.

Northweather averaged 23.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists for the Falcons.

After averaging 30.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.5 steals per game this past season, Williams earned all-state recognition in Class 3.

The Versailles senior scored more than 2,500 points in his high school career.

After helping lead Eugene to the state quarterfinals, Kempker made the Class 2 all-state team.

The senior averaged 18.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists for the Eagles, who finished the season ranked 10th in the state poll.

The St. Elizabeth Hornets finished runner-up in Class 1 behind a second straight all-state season for Struemph.

The senior averaged 20.1 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

The Jefferson City Lady Jays concluded the season with a 22-4 record and a No. 6 ranking in the final state poll after being led by junior Daly and junior Linthacum.
