Russellville, Iberia play to a tie in eight innings

IBERIA - The Russellville Indians baseball team remained unbeaten this summer, playing to a 4-all tie in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Iberia Rangers and then winning 14-3 in Game 2.

The Indians trailed 4-2 going into the top of the seventh inning in Game 1. With runners on second and third base and two outs, Landon Plochberger reached on an infield single, scoring Matthew Miller. Alex Oligschlaeger, the runner on second, came all the way around to score on the throw to first base to tie the game at 4.

Iberia went down in order in the bottom of the seventh. In the eighth, Russellville stranded one runner on base, while Iberia left runners on first and second, ending the game in a tie.

Russellville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, as Plochberger scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Charlie Miller. Iberia tied the score in the bottom half of the inning, then added two more runs in the third to build a 3-1 lead.

Trenton Morrow drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to score Christopher Seaver, closing the gap to 3-2. Iberia added another run in the fifth to push its lead back to two runs.

Plochberger went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and two RBI to lead Russellville's hitting attack in Game 1. Charlie Miller also went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles.

Plochberger was also the starting pitcher for the Indians. In three innings, he gave up three runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Morrow pitched the next three innings, striking out four, while Dawson Koch tossed the last two innings and struck out four.

In Game 2, Russellville scored three runs in each of the first two innings before exploding for eight runs in the third.

Bryce Bryant led the way, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. He hit a two-run double in the second inning and added an RBI single in the third.

Landen Waggoner drove in a team-high four runs, including a bases-clearing double in the third. Jack Schulte had two singles and Alex Oligschlaeger added two RBI.

On the mound, Luke Oligschlaeger pitched the first 1 innings, striking out three batters. Alex Oligschlaeger finished with four strikeouts in 1 innings of relief.

Russellville (4-0-1) hosts Belle at 6 p.m. Monday.
