Prep Wrestling: Nelson leads Capital City

COLUMBIA - Ian Nelson posted a fifth-place finish Saturday to lead the Capital City Cavaliers at the Hickman Tournament.

Capital City placed 16th out of 18 teams with 56.5 points. Edwardsville, Ill., won the team title with 344.5 points.

Nelson posted a 2-2 record Saturday to finish the weekend 4-2 at 195 pounds. He avenged an earlier loss by fall to Jefferson City's Dawson Prenger, winning the rematch by fall in 1:19 in the fifth-place match.

Hurley Jacobs Jr. took sixth place at 182, going 1-3 on Saturday to finish the weekend 1-4. He won by fall against Joplin's Brayden Thomas before dropping back-to-back decisions in the loser's bracket.

Sterling Wheatley also placed sixth for the Cavaliers at 106. Wheatley went 1-3 on Day 2, recording a 9-2 win against Willard's Noah Agcaoili in the loser's bracket.

Jabari Hubbard placed 10th at 152, while Eli Schuemann at 120 and Bahshi Traylor at 170 each finished 12th. Keaton Schrage took 15th place at 138.

Capital City is off until Feb. 4, when it hosts Battle for the first home dual in program history.
