Prep Wrestling: Blair Oaks' Griep wins title

BROOKFIELD - Kyler Griep took first place at 170 pounds Saturday to lead the Blair Oaks Falcons at the Gary Haag Invitational.

Blair Oaks finished seventh out of 11 varsity teams with 31 points. Centralia won the team title with 69 points, followed by Gallatin (58), Hamilton-Penney (41) and Fatima (37) to round out the top four teams.

Griep posted a 5-0 record in the round-robin format, posting all five wins by fall. Four of his pins came in the first period.

Levi Haney placed second at 160 for the Falcons. He opened the tournament with four consecutive wins - three by fall and the fourth by medial forfeit - before dropping a 12-6 decision to Gallatin's Drayton Harris in his final match.

Quinten Denney added a third-place finish at 113, posting a 2-2 record. Both of Denney's wins were by fall.

Taking fourth place for the Falcons were Aidan Bolinger at 106, Camden Meeks at 145 and Nick Welch at 152. Meeks was 2-3 with two pins, while Bolinger and Welch were each 1-3 with a win by fall.

Sam Frisbie took sixth place at 138 with an 0-5 record.

DeVonte Sanders took first place in the B bracket at 195, finishing 2-0 with two pins.

Adam Jurgensmeyer added a third-place finish in the 195 B bracket with an 0-2 record.

Blair Oaks wrestles Tuesday against Versailles and Hallsville at Versailles to wrap up Tri-County Conference dual competition.
