Boys Basketball: California 87, St. Elizabeth 80

CALIFORNIA - The California Pintos scored 18 points in the second overtime period Tuesday, upsetting the St. Elizabeth Hornets 87-80 in the first round of the California Tournament.

The two teams met last month in the River Region Credit Union Shootout at Fleming Fieldhouse. St. Elizabeth won that matchup 76-47.

The Hornets, the No. 2 seed, led 18-11 after one quarter and 37-30 at halftime. The seventh-seeded Pintos continued to trail 53-45 entering the fourth quarter, when they outscored the Hornets 20-12 to tie the score at 65 at the end of regulation.

Both team scored four points in the first overtime period.

Jordan Bondurant scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Pintos, while Ross Struemph finished with 24 points for the Hornets.

California (5-6) will play third-seeded Centralia at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.

St. Elizabeth (8-5), ranked No. 6 in Class 1, will take on Moberly at 9 p.m. Thursday in the loser's bracket semifinals.
