If there was a missed shot, Trevin White was there to snatch it.

The 6-foot 5 Calvary Lutheran senior grabbed 19 rebounds and scored 27 points, despite being held scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the game, to lead the Lions to a 59-48 win Friday against the Chamois Pirates at Calvary.

"They were physical with him and I told him they would be," Calvary coach Mark Buffington said. "He got a little bit frustrated and then he picked it up and did a nice job."

Chamois led 35-31 midway through the third quarter, but the next five minutes belonged to Calvary.

Josh Pritchett, who came off the bench for seven points and 10 rebounds, gave the Lions the lead for good at 36-35 with a three-point play with 3:16 left in the third quarter.

"He really stepped up on defense and did a nice job on the boards," Buffington said.

The next 10 points for the Lions came from White, who scored seven second-chance points during a 17-2 run that spanned two quarters and resulted in a 48-37 lead.

"We were as ready for him as I think we could have been," Chamois coach Klayton Kuschel said. "He's a talented player."

Calvary Lutheran finished with a 49-34 edge in rebounds.

"That rebounding was a big deal for us tonight," Buffington said. "And traditionally we haven't been a strong rebounding team, but maybe we turned a corner tonight. That was a good effort by our kids."

Chamois had an answer on the boards with Eli Deppe, a 6-4 junior for the Pirates.

Deppe, who had 13 rebounds, scored nine of his 11 points following an offensive rebound, but was limited in the second half after picking up his third foul late in the second quarter.

"We depend on him heavily in the paint, especially defensively," Kuschel said. "He's a workhorse."

The Pirates closed within six on a Brandon Dodson 3-pointer at the 2:08 mark of the fourth quarter before the Lions made 5-of-7 at the free-throw line to close out the victory.

"We needed to win a close game against a good team," Buffington said, "and we did that tonight."

Will Struttmann helped the Lions dig out of an early hole by scoring seven of his 11 points in the first half.

Chamois led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter but the game was tied at 27 by halftime.

"A little bit of rust, especially on the offensive end," Buffington said of the Lions, who hadn't played since Dec. 21. "And I think we're a pretty good offensive team. Chamois plays the heck out of defense and I knew that it'd be a dogfight."

Dodson led Chamois with 14 points, while Nathan Nolte added 11 points.

Chamois (4-5) hosts South Callaway on Saturday.

Calvary (5-2) is off until Tuesday when it hosts Macks Creek.

Calvary Lutheran defeated Chamois 47-32 in JV action.
