Girls Basketball: New Bloomfield 50, St. Elizabeth 44

NEW BLOOMFIELD - A strong first half from the St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets was undone by a poor third quarter in a 50-44 loss Thursday to New Bloomfield.

St. Elizabeth led 16-9 after the first quarter and 29-16 at halftime, but got outscored 21-6 in the third quarter by the Lady Wildcats and entered the fourth quarter trailing 37-35.

Harley Engelmeyer had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Maddie Wilde added nine points in the loss.

Mikah Edwards scored a game-high 17 points, and Asya Nichols scored 13 in the win for New Bloomfield.

St. Elizabeth (8-15, 0-8 Show-Me conference) is the No. 6 seed in the Class 1 District 9 Tournament, and opens district play Saturday against No. 3 Bunceton/Prairie Home. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Lewis & Clark Middle School.

New Bloomfield (8-15, 2-5 Show-Me) is the No. 7 seed and host of the Class 2 District 8 Tournament. The Lady Wildcats open against No. 2 New Haven at 4 p.m. Monday.

St. Elizabeth won the JV game 25-22 and finishes the season 11-3.
