HERMANN — The Jefferson City Lady Jays upended the defending Class 2 state champion Hermann Lady Bearcats on Thursday, winning in three sets 23-25, 27-25, 25-21.

Annabelle Maassen led the Lady Jays with a double-double of 20 kills and 20 digs, while Paige Reeser also had a double-double of 27 assists and 17 digs. Rylie Bohanon and Hannah Reed each added 10 digs.

Jefferson City (2-0) plays Monday at Sedalia Smith-Cotton.

The Lady Jays dropped the JV game in three sets 17-25, 26-24, 24-26 to fall to 0-2.

Hannah Linthacum finished with 10 kills and five blocks, while Emma Loesch had 14 digs and Abby Blake added 24 assists.

Jefferson City's freshman team also dropped to 0-2 with a 24-26, 23-25 loss to Hermann.

Grace Spalding and Layne Fatherley finished with 19 and 12 digs, respectively, while Elicia Theroff finished with five kills. Lauren Reid added six digs and five assists for the Lady Jays.
