Lady Jays rout Francis Howell in season opener

ST. CHARLES - Defense was a key component for the Jefferson City Lady Jays in Tuesday's season opener against the Francis Howell Vikings.

The Lady Jays allowed just five points in the second half, pulling away easily to a 56-22 victory.

Jefferson City was ahead 16-6 after one quarter and 33-17 at halftime. The Lady Jays outscored the Vikings 16-1 in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 49-18.

Hannah Linthacum finished with 15 points to lead a balanced Lady Jays' scoring attack. Kara Daly finished with 14 points and Sarah Linthacum recorded a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Jefferson City (1-0), ranked No. 1 in Class 5, plays Monday at Rolla.

In Tuesday's JV game, the Lady Jays lost 48-31. Emmarie Graham and Addison Morgan each scored 10 points for the Lady Jays (0-1).
