Calvary Lutheran falls to Billings in Class 1 state volleyball tourney

CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Calvary Lutheran Lady Lions took fourth place in the Class 1 volleyball Final Four on Saturday, falling in straight sets 12-25, 18-25 to the Billings Lady Wildcats in the third-place match at the Show Me Center.

Calvary Lutheran ends the season with a 23-9-4 record.

Abi Lagore led the Lady Lions with seven kills, while Sarah Johnson added six kills and a team-high nine digs. Julia Kollmeyer finished with 14 assists and seven digs and Jaelyn Engelbrecht tallied seven digs and three block assists.

Bailey Groves and Morgan Heimer led Billings (23-6-4) with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Bailie Williams had 28 assists and Lauren Herd added 15 digs.

This is Calvary Lutheran's second top-four finish in history. The Lady Lions finished runner-up in Class 1 last season.

Advance (38-2) repeated as Class 1 state champion Saturday, winning 25-11, 25-21 against Santa Fe (34-3-4) in the title match.
