Calvary Lutheran in third-place match in Class 1 Final Four

CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Calvary Lutheran Lady Lions came away with one win in their six sets Friday during semifinal round-robin play of the Class 1 volleyball Final Four at the Show Me Center.

Calvary Lutheran opened play with a split against the Billings Lady Wildcats, dropping the first set 16-25 and winning the second set 26-24.

The Lady Lions were swept in their remaining two matches, falling 18-25, 11-25 to the Advance Lady Hornets and 10-25, 13-25 to the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs.

Sarah Johnson led Calvary Lutheran with 10 kills and nine digs against Billings, adding two service aces. Julia Kollmeyer had 23 assists and Jaelyn Engelbrecht and Elizabeth Lieb each had a block assist.

Against Advance, Johnson had six kills, Kollmeyer added 13 assists and three aces and Engelbrecht posted 11 digs. Johnson also led the Lady Lions with five kills and 10 digs against Santa Fe, while Kollmeyer had seven assists and Engelbrecht had two total blocks.

Advance won all six of its sets, sweeping Santa Fe 25-14, 25-22 and Billings 25-9, 25-11. Santa Fe and Billings split their two matches, as Billings won the first set 25-21 and Santa Fe won the second 25-18.

Advance finished 6-0, followed by Santa Fe at 3-3, Billings at 2-4 and Calvary Lutheran at 1-5.

Calvary Lutheran (23-8-4) will play Billings (22-6-4) in the third-place match at noon today. The championship match will feature defending state champion Advance (37-2) against Santa Fe (34-2-4) at 1:30 p.m.

Calvary Lutheran finished runner-up last season to Advance, while Billings came in fourth place.
