Post 5 Seniors split pool play games in Go Nuts Classic

CHARLESTON - The Go Nuts Classic came to an end Saturday for the Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors.

Post 5 opened pool play Friday with a 7-5 defeat against the Mobile (Ala.) Rawdogs before defeating Paragould (Ark.) 8-0 in five innings.

The Seniors went 1-1 on Saturday with a 6-1 win against the Charleston Flying Squirrels and a 6-5 loss to Mountain Home (Ark.) to end the tournament in pool play.

Josef Keilholz and Zach Woehr each had two hits against Paragould with Keilholz also driving in a run on a single in the first inning.

Dawson Schulte hit a two-RBI double in the fifth to make it 8-0.

Zach Davidson, Justin Wood and Jack Shinkle each added an RBI.

Dawson Koch and Blake Terry combined for a two-hitter. Koch struck out three in three innings and Terry struck out three in two innings.

Five Jefferson City players recorded an RBI against the Flying Squirrels, who are the defending Sr. Babe Ruth World Series champions.

Davidson paced the Seniors with three hits, including an RBI single in the third for a 3-0 lead.

Shinkle, Koch, Zach Voss and Drew Voss each added an RBI.

Keilholz tossed a complete game, allowing a run on eight hits with six strikeouts.

Justin Wood led Post 5 with three hits and two RBI against Mountain Home.

Wood's RBI single in the seventh cut the deficit to 6-5 and Post 5 had runners on first and second, but a fielder's choice ended the game.

Woehr recorded a pair of hits, and Parker Schnieders, Koch and Keilholz each drove in a run.

Gage Bax pitched 4 innings of relief, striking out three.

Shinkle took the loss, allowing five runs in 2 innings.

The Post 5 Seniors are back in action July 5-7 in the Southwest Illinois Firecracker Classic at Fairview Heights and Alton.
