Post 5 Juniors reach semifinals of Fike Wood Bat Classic

BLUE SPRINGS - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Juniors advanced to the semifinals of the Fike Wood Bat Classic with a pair of wins Saturday at the Hidden Valley Sports Complex.

The Juniors scored 20 unanswered runs - all with two outs - in a 20-1 victory in four innings against Millard Sox Gold out of Omaha, Neb.

Jefferson City then held on for a 6-5 win against Oak Grove Post 379.

The Juniors also defeated the Gladstone Herrick Memorial Owls 13-1 on Friday.

Post 5 (12-0) will play for a spot in the championship game at 11:30 a.m. today against the Roncalli Pride out of Omaha, Neb.

Post 5 was down 1-0 after an inning of play against Millard Sox Gold before a six-run second.

Andy Hueste and Jaden Hoskins each hit two-RBI triples to go with RBI singles by Landon Plochberger and Landry Bailey.

Post 5 added 12 runs in the third, including an RBI single by Bailey to make it 18-1.

Alex Grellner finished off the scoring with a two-RBI double in the fourth.

Cade Stockman pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven.

Post 5 fell behind 3-1 against Oak Grove before tallying four runs in the third.

Plochberger singled in a pair of runs to tie it at 3 and two more runs came across when Jake Boyce reached on an error.

Nolan Heckemeyer added an RBI double in the fourth.

Oak Grove added a run in the fifth and seventh, but left a runner at first when Bailey got the final out on a ground ball.

Braden Hickey pitched 4 innings, allowing four runs while striking out four.

Bailey went 2 innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out two.
