Father Tolton tops Lausanne for Great 8 Classic title

Both teams found the rim frequently for the first few minutes of Sunday's championship game of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic.

Then the Father Tolton Trailblazers found a bit of a rhythm and led for the final 23 minutes in a 59-49 victory against the Lausanne Collegiate (Tenn.) Lynx for their first Classic title since 2015.

Playing without their 7-foot center Moussa Cisse after a flagrant foul in Saturday's's semifinal win against Jefferson City, the Lynx scored the game's first four points.

The Trailbalzers (8-1) entered the fourth quarter with a 43-31 advantage.

Lausanne chipped away at the lead a bit, cutting the deficit to 51-43 midway through the fourth quarter after Jalen Montgomery converted a three-point play.

The Lynx never got within striking distance, though, as Schwartze and Coban Porter each made a pair of three throws and Chase Martin slammed the door with a two-handed jam to cap off an 8-2 run for a 59-45 lead with just 1:39 remaining.

Montgomery, who scored 12 points, and Johnathan DeJurnett, who had a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds, were named to the all-tournament team for Lausanne.
