Shootout preview: Offenses to be tested in Blair Oaks-Hermann game

Six games into the 2019-20 season, the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons are still working to get into a rhythm offensively.

Blair Oaks is off to a 3-3 start and are coming off a 57-49 defeat Thursday against the St. James Lady Tigers, who are receiving votes in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 3 poll.

"Regardless of who we're playing right now, it's us getting better and improving upon what we did the previous game," Blair Oaks coach Darren Heckman said. "It is nice that we get to play quickly, not think about it too much."

The Lady Falcons will face Hermann (5-1, ranked No. 9 in Class 3) at 1 p.m. today in the River Region Credit Union Shootout at Fleming Fieldhouse.

The Lady Bearcats, who are allowing 36 points per game, will put the Lady Falcons' offense to the test.

"Another long team, sort of like we saw (Thursday)," Heckman said. "Hopefully this helps us prepare for that game."

Hermann's lone loss came Thursday in a 60-55 defeat against fifth-ranked South Callaway.

The Lady Bearcats are also scoring 56 points per game.

Blair Oaks enters today's game averaging 51.3 points per game while allowing 54.8 points per game.

"We'll try and get some rest a little bit," Heckman said. "It's a quick turnaround. It was a a tough battle (Thursday) so we want to make sure we're fresh. But then again, just work on some things offensively."

These teams met in last year's Shootout with Blair Oaks winning 53-37, thanks to an 11-2 run to close it out.

Bailey Rissmiller, who has scored at least 14 points three times this season, tallied 14 points in that game.

Rissmiller scored a game-high 21 points in Thursday's loss to St. James.

Mallorie Fick has been a consistent scorer for Blair Oaks this season, totaling 19 points three times.
