TIPTON - Abby Backes scored a game-high 31 points Saturday, leading the Tipton Lady Cardinals to a 71-55 championship win against the Russellville Lady Indians in the Tipton Tournament.
Backes was named tournament MVP after scoring 99 points in three games.
Tipton had a 19-15 lead after one quarter and went into halftime ahead 46-37. The Lady Cardinals began the fourth quarter with a 54-43 lead.
Myra Claas finished with 17 points and Kiley Bailey added 12 points for the Lady Cardinals. Claas and Alexa Jurgensmeyer were both named to the all-tournament team.
Tipton (3-0), ranked No. 5 in Class 2, hosts Green Ridge on Monday to begin Kaysinger Conference play.
