Capital City has six individual champs at Warrenton tourney

WARRENTON - The Capital City Cavaliers had six individual wrestling champions and six runner-up finishes Saturday at the Warrenton JV Tournament.

No team scores were recorded in the 16-team tournament.

Eli Schuemann posted a 5-0 record to finish first in the A bracket at 120 pounds. Schuemann won four of his matches by fall and the fifth by technical fall.

Gio Cooper also finished 5-0 to place first in the C bracket at 138 in his first appearance for Capital City. Cooper won three of his matches by pin, one by technical fall and one by a 10-7 decision.

Jabari Hubbard went 5-0 in the B bracket at 152, winning all five matches by fall.

Hurley Jacobs Jr. also went 5-0 at 182 in the A bracket, pinning each of his opponents in the first period.

Bahshi Traylor Jr. came away with a 5-0 record in the B bracket at 182, recording all five wins by fall.

Sterling Wheatley finished the tournament with a 3-0 record at 120 in the B bracket, pinning two opponents and winning a 12-10 decision.

Recording second-place finishes for the Cavaliers were:

AJ Kempker, who went 3-1 in the C bracket at 113 with three wins by fall.

Eli Jenkins, who finished 3-1 in the A bracket at 132 with two pins and one win by major decision before losing by injury default in his final match.

Joey Huerta, who was 4-1 in the C bracket at 132 with four wins by fall.

Keaton Schrage, who posted a 4-1 record with two wins by fall and two wins by major decision.

Adam Alonzo, who went 3-1 with three wins by fall in the C bracket at 220.

Greg Porting, who was 3-1 in the B bracket at 285 with three wins by fall.

Taking third place for the Cavaliers were Lorenzo Gillom, who was 1-2 in the A bracket at 170 with a win by fall, and Larry Driver, who was 2-2 in the B bracket at 195 with two pins.

Dylan Mulcahey came in fourth place in the A bracket at 152 with a 2-3 record, winning by fall and adding another win in a 12-11 decision.

Finishing in fifth place were Ted Krause, who was 1-4 in the A bracket at 120 with one win by fall, and Justin Sullens Jr., who was 1-3 in the A bracket at 126 with one win by fall.

Capital City (2-0) will wrestle Tuesday in a tri-dual against St. James and Potosi at St. James.
