The Jefferson City Renegades didn't ever give up.

Trailing 4-0 before they even got the plate for the first time and down nine runs heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Renegades scored the final 10 runs of the game Monday night to defeat the Chillicothe Mudcats 13-12 in MINK League action at Vivion Field.

It was a scary top of the first for the Renegades. Starting pitcher Dylan Dunbar took a line drive off the upper part of his throwing arm from the first Mudcats batter. Dunbar was being counted on to go deep into the contest and he tried to stay in the game as long as he could. But after five batters, it was apparent he needed to come out of the game. The Mudcats scored four runs in the top of the first to take a big early lead.

The Renegades answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit in half. Both teams scored a run in the second and after a scoreless third, the Mudcats played three in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 12-3 lead.

But the Renegades dugout came to life in the bottom of the fifth as the team scored five runs to cut the Mudcats' lead to 12-8. The Renegades then tied it with four in the bottom of the sixth.

Neither team could get a run until the bottom of the ninth when Brady Voss singled home Caden Diel, who had walked and stole second, with the game-winner.

The Renegades hit three home runs Monday night.

Kolin Demel had a three-run shot to key the four-run fifth inning. In the sixth, Hamilton Anderson hit a towering two-run shot to right, then two batters later, Andy Paten hit a two-run home run to left. It the second home run of the season for Paten, the first for both Demel and Anderson.

Shane Fontenot was the winning pitcher in relief. He pitched the final four innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five.

Five Renegades - Boss, Mize, Anderson, Kaden Helsel and Paten - had two hits each in a 13-hit attack. The Renegades also took advantage of five Mudcat (3-5) errors.

The Renegades (5-5) are off today before playing Wednesday at home against the St. Joseph Mustangs. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
