Renegades top Legends in exhibition

The Jefferson City Renegades wrapped up a three-game exhibition homestand Thursday with a 13-5 win in seven innings against the JC Legends at Vivion Field.

The Renegades scored four runs in the first inning, three runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to build a 13-0 lead.

Seth Denoyer led the Renegade hitting attack, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single and two RBI. He reached base in all five plate appearances, and both doubles were hit off the left-field wall.

Dawson Schuemann added a two-run double that dropped into shallow left-center field in the fourth, followed by a two-run bloop single down the right-field line in the fifth.

Deejay Seelbach was the winning pitcher for the Renegades. He pitched the first four innings and allowed two hits and three walks while striking out five.

The Legends loaded the bases in the top of the fourth with two walks and an error but were unable to push a run across the plate.

They ended the threat of a shutout in the top of the seventh. The Legends drew three straight walks to open the inning, then Travis Kay was hit by a pitch to force in a run, making the score 13-1.

Parker Schnieders hit a sacrifice fly, then Kamron Morriss grounded back to the pitcher, scoring another run. Kevin Hagner added an RBI single later in the inning to make it an eight-run game.

Bryce Kay scored three runs in the seventh for the Legends. He stole a total of four bases in the inning and scored on a passed ball, serving as a pinch runner three times after drawing a leadoff walk and scoring.

Blake McPheeters closed the game for the Legends with a scoreless seventh, striking out two of the five batters he faced.

The Renegades won all three games this summer against the Legends.

The MINK League regular season will wrap up with two more games, as the Renegades will host the Joplin Outlaws tonight and Saturday. Both games start at 7 p.m.

The Outlaws (17-20) defeated Sedalia 6-4 on Thursday. Both Joplin and Jefferson City (15-18) are three games back of Sedalia, which clinched the No. 1 seed in next week's South Division playoffs.

If Joplin wins one of the next two games against the Renegades, the Outlaws will clinch the No. 2 seed and host Jefferson City on Monday in the first round of the MINK League playoffs. The Renegades need to win both games to get the No. 2 seed in order to host the first playoff game in program history Monday.
