Lincoln women fall to Washburn on the road

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Lincoln women's basketball team ended its three-game road trip Tuesday with a 73-49 loss to the Washburn Ichabods in MIAA play.

Lincoln's only lead came in the opening minute of the contest when Aliyah Bello made 1-of-2 free throws. Washburn answered with an 8-0 run and never looked back.

The Blue Tigers trailed 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. Lincoln closed the gap to three points on a couple of occasions in the second quarter, but Washburn was able to stretch its lead back to double figures at 32-20 by halftime.

The lead would remain at double digits the rest of the way, as the Ichabods were ahead 52-29 entering the fourth quarter.

AJ Bradley scored nine points to lead Lincoln, while Vivian Chigbu came off the bench and finished with eight points. Virja Lewis and Niyah Jackson each added seven points.

The Blue Tigers shot just 28.8 percent from the floor and 1-of-10 from 3-point range.

Hunter Bentley led Washburn (5-5) with 21 points, while Nuria Barrientos posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Lauren Cassaday added 11.

Lincoln (0-10) returns to Jefferson City and starts a four-game homestand Thursday against Rogers State at Jason Gym. The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m., while the men's game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
