Women's Wrestling: Cordia runner-up in tourney

WAKARUSA, Kan. - Missouri Valley freshman Abbey Cordia made her collegiate debut Saturday, taking second place at 136 pounds in the EZFlex Invitational hosted by Ottawa University.

Cordia (School of the Osage High School), a two-time state medalist who had a career 61-7 record in high school, finished with a 2-1 record in the six-person bracket to take second place.

In the first round, Cordia won by fall in 1:51 against Baker's Jaimes Clark. She followed that with a pin in :49 against Ottawa's Corinne Robertson in the semifinals.

Ottawa's Lyric Gonsalves won 10-0 by technical fall against Cordia in the championship match.

Cordia was one of four Vikings to wrestle in a championship match Saturday.

Missouri Valley (1-0), ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, wrestles Thursday in a dual at the University of Saint Mary (Kan.).
