College Baseball: Creighton's Mantle hits pair of homers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Creighton redshirt senior third baseman Ryan Mantle homered in back-to-back games for the Bluejays during a weekend series at Georgetown.

Mantle (Linn High School) began last Friday's 5-0 win with a solo home run in the top of the second inning. He wrapped up the scoring in last Saturday's 4-2 win with another solo shot.

Both home runs were hit to straightaway center field, more than 380 feet away over the tall center-field fence at the University of Maryland's Smith Stadium. The home runs were his third and fourth of the season.

Mantle has started in all 22 games for the Bluejays and has a .311 batting average (23-for-74). He also has 13 RBI and 13 runs scored, along with six doubles.

Creighton (14-8) begins a four-game series Friday at home against St. John's.
