Lincoln softball drops pair of games at Missouri S&T

ROLLA - The Lincoln softball team lost two games in walk-off fashion Wednesday, falling 10-1 in five innings in Game 1 and then 11-10 in nine innings in Game 2 to the Missouri S&T Miners.

Marcy McCalla hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Miners to win the opener by run-rule.

Rachel Smith hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to complete the doubleheader sweep for Missouri S&T.

In Game 1, Emily Williams singled up the middle to score Jordan Lawson, giving the Blue Tigers a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

It was all Missouri S&T after that, as the Miners scored seven runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Lawson had two of Lincoln's six hits, which were all singles.

The Blue Tigers opened Game 2 with a pair of home runs in the top of the first. Jordan Hollon hit a leadoff homer to left field, then Kendra Holt followed with a two-run blast to put Lincoln ahead 3-0.

Alivia Rymer hit a solo shot in the second, giving the Blue Tigers their first three-home game of the season.

Missouri S&T battled back to take a 5-4 lead through four innings. Holt hit a two-run single in the fifth for Lincoln, which added two more runs in the sixth to retake the lead 8-7.

Leah Wagner drove in a run on a grondout in the seventh for the Blue Tigers, but the Miners scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, tying the score at 9 to force extra innings.

In the eighth, Williams had an RBI groundout for Lincoln. However, Missouri S&T drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning to keep the game going.

With the international rule in effect, Lincoln was unable to push a run across the plate in the top of the ninth. The Miners took advantage of having a runner start on second base by hitting back-to-back singles with one out to win the game.

Rymer went 4-for-4 to lead the Lincoln offense, finishing a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Holt drove in a game-high five runs on a pair of hits, while Lawson added a single and a double.

Lincoln (6-33-1) is off until next Wednedsay when it plays a doubleheader at William Jewell.
