Lincoln track and field teams claim five titles at UCM Relays

WARRENSBURG - The Lincoln men's and women's track and field teams combined to win five events Friday in the UCM Relays at Walton Stadium.

Lincoln swept the men's and women's titles in the 4x400-meter relays and the 400-meter hurdles.

Aliyah George, Chrissani May, Maria Diamond and Kimone Campbell won the women's 4x400 for Lincoln with a time of 3:54.43, finishing 26 seconds ahead of Central Missouri.

On the men's side, Stewart Leonardo, Shemar Fletcher, Colby Jennings Jr. and Reuben Nichols clocked a time of 3:16.05, finishing seven seconds ahead of the host Mules.

In the women's 400 hurdles, Melissa Tyme won with a time of 1:08.39. Meanwhile, Kewani Campbell won the men's 400 hurdles with a time of 53.75 seconds, while teammate Rashane Bartlett was runner-up in 54.66 seconds.

Lincoln's fifth win came in the women's 800-meter run. Kimone Campbell crossed the finish line with a winning time of 2:11.88 - a season-best and a provisional time for the NCAA Division II national championships - while May was second in 2:13.67 and Kelly-Ann Beckford was third in 2:15.00.

Both of Lincoln's 4x100-meter relays took second place Friday.

The quartet of Vivian Akunna, Rene Medley, Danneika Lyn and George posted a time of 48.37 seconds in the women's relay, just 0.16 seconds behind Lindenwood. For the men, Leonardo, Fletcher, Nichols and Jennings finished in 41.62 seconds, just 0.17 seconds behind Quincy.

Akunna added a second-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdle final with a time of 15.03 seconds.

The Lincoln men qualified three runners for the final of the 100-meter dash. Fletcher took second in the final with a time of 10.67 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second behind Central Missouri's Antonio Lay. Leonardo was seventh in 11.41 seconds, followed by Javden Douglas in eighth in 11.55 seconds.

DauJaughn Murray placed third in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.76 seconds.

The Lincoln women had two top-eight finishers in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Tyme took third in 11:23.05, while Rebecca Bernadin finished sixth in 12:29.87.

Wedjie Atis placed seventh in the women's long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 10.5 inches.

Lincoln is scheduled to compete this week in the Drake Relays, a three-day event that starts Thursday.

Lindenwood freshman Keely Gustafson was a double-winner to highlight area competitors at Friday's UCM Relays.

Gustafson (Versailles High School) finished first among 29 competitors in the women's 200-meter dash, posting a winning time of 25.35 seconds. She also helped the Lions to a first-place finish in the 4x100 with a time of 48.21 seconds.

Central Missouri freshman Adam McCauley (Blair Oaks High School) helped the Mules to a second-place finish in the 4x400 with a time of 3:23.11. He also placed 14th in the men's 800 with a time of 2:02.18.

Missouri Southern freshman Mason York (Jefferson City High School) came in third place in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 15-5.75.

Drury junior Brendan Bena (Jefferson City High School) took fifth place in the men's 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:56.29. Central Methodist freshman Elliott Reed (Jefferson City High School) finished 51st in the men's 1,500 with a time of 4:56.66.

William Woods senior Naomi Kerkula (Jefferson City High School) and freshman Lauren Imler (Eldon High School) helped the Owls to a fifth-place finish in the women's 4x400 with a time of 4:30.35.

Individually, Kerkula finished 11th in the women's 100 preliminaries (12.98 seconds) and 13th in the 200 (27.07 seconds). Imler placed 32nd in the 800 with a time of 2:53.94.

Kerkula and sophomore Kristan Wilson (Eldon High School) also ran on the William Woods women's 4x100, which took sixth place in 51.77 seconds. Wilson added a 20th-place finish in the 400 in 1:12.10.

William Woods freshman Easton Ambler (New Bloomfield High School) placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdle finals with a time of 16.73 seconds. He was also 14th in the 400 in a time of 1:06.16.

Missouri Southern freshman Haley Clifton (Eldon High School) finished seventh in the women's shot put with a throw of 40-1.5. She also placed 18th in the discus with a toss of 117-9.

William Woods senior Hunter Carpenter (California High School) and sophomore Landon Dunlap (Jefferson City High School) helped the Owls to a seventh-place finish in the 4x400 with a time of 3:39.44.

Dunlap added a 12th-place time in the men's 800 (2:00.73) and a 13th-place finish in the 1,500 (4:08.48). Carpenter placed 15th in the 800 (2:03.57) and 17th in the 1,500 (4:11.17).

Central Methodist freshman Sarah Johnson (Calvary Lutheran High School) came in eighth place in the women's long jump with a leap of 15-9.5, while Central Methodist sophomore Allison Procter (Calvary Lutheran High School) finished 17th with a jump of 12-8.5.

Columbia College freshman Makenzie Schwartz (Russellville High School) competed in three events for the Cougars. She finished ninth in the women's 100 hurdle preliminaries (16.83 seconds), 10th in the 100 preliminaries (12.93 seconds) and 20th in the 200 (27.74 seconds).

William Woods freshman Aliczander Nikonowicz (New Bloomfield High School) finished 10th in both the men's javelin (112-7) and the 400 hurdles (1:01.44).

Central Missouri junior Baylie Bellin (Blair Oaks High School) took 11th in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 153-4.

Columbia College freshman Trevor Bailey (Helias High School) was 15th in the men's 200 (23.97 seconds) and 17th in the 100 preliminaries (11.82 seconds).

Columbia College freshman Hannah Koenigsfeld (Linn High School) came in 17th place in the women's javelin with a throw of 87-10. She also placed 30th in the shot put with a throw of 30-3.

Drury freshman Thomas Nield (Jefferson City High School) took 27th in the men's 800 with a time of 2:10.17.

Columbia College freshman Emma Homfeldt (Calvary Lutheran High School) finished 27th in the women's 800 (2:38.60) and 31st in the 1,500 (5:24.55).

William Woods graduate student Charlie Schattgen (New Bloomfield High School) placed 41st in the men's 5,000-meter run (16:59.94) and 44th in the 1,500 (4:36.81).
