Lincoln men set to host No. 21 Missouri Southern

The Lincoln men's basketball team is looking to improve to 2-0 when the Blue Tigers host Missouri Southern today at Jason Gym.

Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Lions, ranked No. 21 nationally in Division II, are off to a 3-0 start. Missouri Southern defeated Central Missouri 67-58 on Tuesday after picking up road wins last week against Central Oklahoma and Newman.

Jefferson City High School graduate Paul McMahon has been the acting head coach for Missouri Southern to start the season. Head coach Jeff Boschee has missed the first three games due a COVID-19 quarantine.

Cam Martin, a 6-foot-9 senior forward/center, is a returning All-American for the Lions. He leads the team with 23.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

Martin led Missouri Southern with 23 points Tuesday against Central Missouri.

Also averaging points in double figures for the Lions are Stan Scott, a 6-4 senior guard, at 15.0 points per game and Winston Dessesow, a 6-0 sophomore guard, at 13.3 points per game.

Through three games, Missouri Southern is averaging 74.7 points and allowing 70.3. The first two wins of the season were by a combined four points.

Lincoln is playing for the first time in a week after defeating Central Missouri 86-80 last Saturday.

Yaniel Vidal came off the bench to lead the Blue Tigers with 20 points, while Sevon Witt had 19 points and nine rebounds in his Lincoln debut.

Other players to score in double figures for the Blue Tigers were Quinton Drayton with 14 points, Cameron Potts with 12 and Ni'Sean Rigmaiden with 11.

Lincoln shot 27-of-39 (69.2 percent) in the win.

This will be the Blue Tigers' second-to-last home game of 2020. After today's contest, the Blue Tigers hit the road to play at Missouri Western and top-ranked Northwest Missouri before returning home Dec. 10 to host Pittsburg State.
