Lincoln in Oklahoma to face Northeastern State

A weekend stay in Oklahoma is up next for the Lincoln men's and women's basketball teams.

The Blue Tigers will face Northeastern State in Tahlequah tonight with the women's game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the men tipping off around 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the teams will be in Claremore for an MIAA doubleheader against Rogers State beginning at 2 p.m.

The Lincoln men's team is coming off an 85-84 win last Saturday against Pittsburg State to move into a tie for fifth in the conference standings at 4-3.

The Blue Tigers enter the game 7-9 overall while the RiverHawks are just behind at 5-4 in conference play and 12-6 overall.

Northeastern State is one of the better defensive teams in the MIAA, allowing just 64.6 points per game. Northwest Missouri State is the lone team ahead of Northeastern State in that category, giving up just 62 points per game.

Aaron Givens, a 6-foot-10 senior, and Josh Ihek, a 6-9 senior, are tied for fourth in the MIAA with 1.4 blocks per game.

Caleb Smith and Kendrick Thompson are the only RiverHawks averaging double figures in scoring.

Smith, a 6-2 senior, averages 16.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while Thompson, a 6-3 redshirt senior, gets 13.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

Northeastern State scored 75.2 points per game, good for seventh in the MIAA.

Lincoln is 12th in the MIAA in scoring at 70.9 points per game, while allowing 73.4 points per game, which is 12th in the conference.

Jonell Burton leads the Blue Tigers with 15 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds.

Cameron Potts is second on the team in scoring (12.3) and rebounding (6.4).

The third Blue Tiger averaging double figures in scoring is Marcel Burton with 10.4 points each contest.

The women's game is a matchup of two of the bottom three teams in the MIAA.

Northeastern State (4-12, 2-7), is 12th while Lincoln (3-13, 0-7) is 13th in the standings.

Cenia Hayes leads the RiverHawks with 14.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a 5-9 junior guard.

Shae Sanchez, a 5-9 junior, scores 13.8 points per game and leads the team by averaging 1.9 assists.

Kaloni Pryear continues to pace the Blue Tigers in scoring with 17.0 points per game.

In the post, Vivian Chigbu scores 11.9 points per game and pulls down a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game.
