College Cross Country: Knernschield places in top three at home meet

FAYETTE - Central Methodist senior Elliot Knernschield finished in third place Saturday to lead the Eagles to a second-place finish in their home meet, the CMU Invitational, at Fayette Golf Course.

Knernschield (Helias High School) posted a time of 19:50.06 in the 6K race, trailing only two of the 50 runners in the race.

It's the second straight third-place finish for Knernschield. In the Baker Maple Leaf Invitational on Aug. 31, he posted a time of 16:18.54 in the 5K race.

Central Methodist senior Joe Bruemmer (Helias High School) finished 25th at the CMU Invitational with a time of 22:20.20, while senior Ryan Bennett (Eldon High School) placed 44th in 25:10.93.

Central Methodist posted 62 points in the team standings, trailing only Benedictine's 36 points.

In the women's 5K race, Missouri Valley freshman Lindsey Brandt (Russellville High School) placed 24th out of 38 runners with a time of 23:08.41, the fastest time for the Vikings.
