College Baseball: Wood, Rackers honored by Region 16

HILLSBORO - Jefferson College sophomores Grant Wood and Jason Rackers received weekly honors from NJCAA Region 16 on Tuesday.

Wood (Jefferson City High School) was named the region's hitter of the week, while Rackers (Blair Oaks High School) was selected as the co-pitcher of the week.

In the Vikings' sub-region series against Metropolitan Community College, Wood batted 4-for-6 with two RBI, two runs scored and a solo home run, his fourth of the season.

For the season, Wood has played in 54 games with a .318 batting average (54-for-170). He continues to lead all of NJCAA with 59 walks and has 65 runs scored, 48 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

Rackers pitched eight shutout innings in a 3-2 win against MCC, striking out eight and walking one. He gave up just three hits, improving his season record to 8-2.

In 12 appearances, Rackers has a 3.65 ERA with 74 strikeouts and 19 walks in 59 innings.

Jefferson College (47-8), ranked No. 15 in NJCAA Division I, plays this weekend in the Region 16 Tournament at Joplin.
