Lincoln men fall to McKendree 55-51 in Shootout

QUINCY, Ill. - The Lincoln men's basketball team made just one field goal in the final eight minutes Saturday, letting a five-point lead slip away into a 55-51 loss to McKendree in the Quincy Holiday Classic.

Alafia Oluwasogo scored a fast-break layup with less than nine minutes to play, pushing Lincoln's lead to 49-44.

McKendree used a three-point play and a layup to tie the score at 49 less than two minutes later. The Bearcats took the lead two possessions later, but Cameron Potts made a jumper to tie the game at 51 with less than five minutes to play.

Those would be the Blue Tigers' last points of the game. McKendree did not score on its next four possessions, but Aleksa Popovic got a steal and a layup to give the Bearcats at 53-51 lead with less than two minutes to play.

Bryson Bultman added a pair of free throws down the stretch to make it a four-point victory.

Lincoln's Marcel Burton scored the game's first points with a jumper, but it would be the Blue Tigers' only lead before halftime. McKendree led 34-28 at intermission.

Potts scored a game-high 19 points to lead Lincoln. The Blue Tigers shot 35.5 percent from the field and missed all 22 attempts from 3-point range.

Logan Kohrmann led McKendree (5-3) with 16 points.

Lincoln (3-6) plays Quincy, the host team, at 3:15 p.m. today.
