COLUMBIA — The Missouri women's basketball team dropped its second straight game Wednesday, falling 78-73 to Northern Iowa at Mizzou Arena.

Northern Iowa led at the end of each quarter, holding a 23-20 advantage after one quarter, 40-37 at halftime and 62-61 through three quarters.

Missouri led 68-67 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Tigers went without a field for the final 3:51 of the game.

Amber Smith shot 8-of-14 to lead Missouri with 19 points. She also added a team-high seven rebounds. Hayley Frank made 9-of-10 at the free-throw line on her way to 17 points. Jordan Roundtree contributed 12 points, making 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.

The Tigers shot 47.1 percent from the floor and made 10-of-20 shots from 3-point range.

Karli Rucker scored a game-high 21 points for Northern Iowa (3-0), which was picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll.

The Panthers shot 41.8 percent from the field and forced the Tigers into 16 turnovers.

Missouri (1-2) plays Saturday at Green Bay, which won last season's contest 56-49.

Game time is 1 p.m.
