Your Opinion: Applauding Bush's 9/11 memorial speech

Dear Editor:

Dear President Bush, I listened to and read the speech you delivered yesterday at the Shanksville, Pennsylvania, memorial site where you warned us that our government, our very way of life, is threatened.

I applauded when you said, "We have seen growing evidence that the dangers to our country can come not only across borders but from violence that gathers within" (and while) "there is little cultural overlap between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home, in their disdain for pluralism, in their disregard for human life, in their determination to defile national symbols, they are children of the same foul spirit."

The 9/11 terrorists did not attack us to conquer us and replace our government with people of their choice. The Jan. 6 MAGA terrorists intended to do exactly that: conquer our government and replace it with a person(s) and system of their choosing.

I so appreciate that you used your status and bully pulpit to indict the MAGA terrorists and to challenge us as a nation "to confront them."

Well done, well-spoken and absolutely necessary.
