Your Opinion: Elections should be above reproach

Dear Editor:

Sunday's paper, May 9, had an AP article in it about GOP voting laws. The caption under the accompanying picture read, "A voter submits a ballot in an official drop box during early voting Oct. 19 in Athens, Georgia. The county officials who run elections are facing a slate of new punishments as part of a nationwide Republican campaign to roll back access to the ballot." Really? Is that news or is that an opinion?

How dare the Republicans ask that "if a ballot drop box is accessible outside of early voting hours or is left unsupervised" the election supervisor be held accountable? How unreasonable of those Republicans!

Then there's the issue of mailing out unsolicited absentee ballot applications. And just who decides on who gets these unsolicited absentee ballots? Are the voter registration names taken from a Democrat or Republican voter roll?

Whether you believe the election was lost, stolen or unethical, or all the above, now is the time to fix it. Be proactive, not reactive. Why would you not want the election for the highest office in this land to not be above and beyond any reproach?

I will never understand the accusations by liberals and how they get by with claiming voter ID disenfranchises minorities. If you are a citizen of this great country, and you are not able to get proper documentation in order to vote, there's a pretty good chance that you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Period!
