Your Opinion: US reaping what it sowed

Dear Editor:

A recent article in Newsweek (March 26, 2021) blames natural disasters, famine and violence as major contributors to the influx of immigrants at our southern border from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

I would also suggest that much of the violence is our responsibility for having the U.S. Army's School of the Americas (now renamed The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) at Fort Benning. The list of notorious graduates of this school from the three Northern Triangle countries listed above is quite extensive. Google "School of the Americas," to see the list yourself. In part at least, the U.S. is reaping what it has sowed and trained.
