Our Opinion: Moseley tabbed to lead LU during interim as presidential search begins

We congratulate John Moseley on being selected to lead Lincoln University on an interim basis while the university starts the process to select its next president.

The LU Board of Curators picked Moseley, the former head men's basketball coach and then director of athletics.

LU has won three national championships during Moseley's tenure as the director of athletics, and he has led the Blue Tigers to success on the basketball court. Under his leadership, the men's basketball team had four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in 40 years.

He started serving in the new role May 22.

He replaces Jerald Woolfolk, who served as president for nearly three years.

With seriously low retention rates and declining enrollment, Lincoln is in a difficult position.

The Board of Curators recognized it was time for a change. Moseley knows the university and the community well.

We believe he has the knowledge and experience to guide the university while the next president is being selected.

Moseley also will be among the candidates who will be seeking the job permanently.

Even on an interim basis, Mosely will have his hands full. So will the Board of Curators, which is beginning its presidential search.

We urge the board to define the course of where the university should be going and find a good leader who can champion that journey.
