Dear Editor:

At our last Eastside Business Association meeting, it was stated that upgrades to Moreau Heights and Thorpe Gordon would be delayed another year as the School Board voted to spend $16 million to make our other schools energy efficient by things like LED lighting, and measuring and monitoring how much water gets used to flush toilets and wash hands.

With Thorpe Gordon and Moreau Heights getting passed over again for central air, I feel it is a misuse of taxpayer money. They should be monitoring academic performance.

A few months earlier, the School Board voted to spend $22 million on sports complexes. Many of our children are below the state average in academics. I feel our priorities are a little off.

I refer to a News Tribune article dated Sept. 19, 2015, which stated remodeling had been completed at East Elementary (finally), and next year, improvements to Moreau Heights in the amount of $2.5 million would be done. We are still waiting! A promise made, a promise not kept!

There needs to be a change in direction.
