Your Opinion: Election and McCarthyism

Dear Editor:

With the possibly false accusations regarding election fraud in this past presidential election, I feel it is like the scare and fear caused by McCarthyism of the early 1950s. Even though McCarthyism falsely accused American citizens of being communists and there being no proof and some of them were not communists, it was enough to be on the "blacklist" to ruin so many lives due to the false allegations.

The possibly false allegations of voter fraud during this election is putting a big divide in our country at a time when we all need to be pulling together not against each other.

This needs to stop. Either provide the proof of election fraud or let it go. There are so many more important issues facing our country than the time and money spent investigating an issue that does not exist. Have we not learned anything from our history?

I understand some senators, representatives and others believe this fraud did occur, but without proof, all it is is rumors to assist an outgoing president who campaigned for them and helped them win their respective elections. Missouri has a U.S. senator who has stated he is on the bandwagon and drank the Kool-Aid, and on Jan. 6, when the Congress was set to ratify the election results from the Electoral College tried to force a debate on the certification of the election. It would take the House and Senate to vote to override the election results. This could possibly have a negative effect on Missouri in the future. It is time for this to stop! Provide the proof to prove election fraud or malfeasance or let it go!
