Dear Editor:
When I was 16 years old, I learned to drive and I often used the family car to get around. No one ever gave me "the talk." I knew by observation of my parents and others, and by common sense, that if a police officer stopped me, I should be entirely cooperative and courteous. Similarly, I knew better than to stick my hand in boiling water. About the same level of worldliness is needed for both.
I ask: Do Black 16-year-old drivers really need "the talk?"
