Your Opinion: Creeping critical race theory

Dear Editor:

There have been several letters written about the possibility that critical race theory is creeping into the curriculum at Jefferson City. That possibility has become reality.

Last week I obtained a roster that more than 80 teachers and administrators attended training in June at a cost of $88,930.60, titled "unconscious bias and equity in education." I reviewed the "Participant Guide" and it is full of references to far-left propaganda promoting tenets of Marxism such as "myth of meritocracy," that "equity" and not "equality" should be promoted in schools, that our revolution was fought to perpetuate slavery, and that everyone must identify as either "oppressor" or "oppressed," determined solely on the basis of race. There are two citations to tolerance.org, a bigoted website which the board claims to have rejected but it remains a reference in the training for its staff. That is worse than as a reference for a single class.

Other examples include a 1989 pamphlet that introduced the concept of "white privilege," an article titled "Colorblindness, the New Racism," the new mantra that asserts to encourage a colorblind society is racist, and an article praising critical race theory.

The district is sending our educators to seminars that preach the propaganda of 1619 Project, Black Lives Matter, and other racist, anti-Semitic beliefs. Will one board member step up and oppose this?

The district is using our money to force its staff to accept CRT as dogma, which requires indoctrination of our children, and our board has sent staff to learn it! $88,930.60 of taxpayer money spent to promote the overthrow our system of government!

Where are the parents, grandparents, preachers, elected officials, teachers and administrators to contest these actions of the school board and top echelon of the administration? Do not let the activists that want to fundamentally change our country get away with the destruction of our country through our school. Lobby the school board members by email, in person, and especially at board meetings. They work for the voters. They did not get elected on a platform to adopt CRT or anything like it. The board has been hiding information and misrepresenting its position. Attend the Aug. 17 board meeting at Miller Performing Arts Center to speak during the open forum, be respectful but express your outrage. Government derives its authority from the consent of the governed and we do not consent!
